Method 1: change pitch in your phone’s browser (no app)
- Save the song to your phone first (Files on iPhone, the Download folder on Android). Streams from Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube Music are protected and cannot be opened as files.
- Open the tool that fits the job in Safari, Chrome or another current browser (list below).
- Tap the file box and choose the song from the file picker.
- Tap −1 / +1 or a preset (−2, +2, octave). Each tap is one semitone.
- Tap Play and switch between Before and After to compare.
- Tap Download. iPhone saves to Files > Downloads; Android saves to the Download folder.
Pick the tool by what you have: a song file → the audio pitch changer or the MP3 pitch changer; your own voice → the vocal pitch changer, which records from the phone’s microphone; a karaoke track → the karaoke pitch changer with big ♭ / ♯ buttons; a clip from your camera roll → the video pitch changer, which returns an MP4; a YouTube link → the YouTube pitch changer. All of them process the audio on the phone; nothing is uploaded.
Method 2: change pitch on iPhone with GarageBand
GarageBand is Apple’s free music app. Imported songs do not follow key changes by default; Apple’s GarageBand for iPhone guide says an imported (blue) region must have “Follow Tempo & Pitch” turned on.
- Create a new song and open Tracks view.
- Tap the Loop Browser button, then Files, then “Browse items from the Files app”, and pick the song (MP3, AAC, WAV or AIFF).
- Double-tap the song’s blue region, choose Settings and turn on Follow Tempo & Pitch.
- Tap the Settings button in the control bar, tap Key Signature and choose the new key. Each key step is one semitone: C to D is 2 semitones up. Listen to check the direction.
- Do not touch Tempo, so only the pitch moves. Play it, then share the song as an audio file.

Method 3: change pitch on Android (and iPhone) with BandLab
BandLab is free on Android and iPhone. Its AudioStretch tool, described in the BandLab Help Center, is the quickest app route:
- Open BandLab, tap Create at the bottom and, under Tools, tap AudioStretch.
- Tap the Add button (top left) and import the song (WAV, AIFF, MP3 or M4A).
- Tap ♭ Flat or ♯ Sharp to lower or raise the pitch by one semitone; drag the value for cents.
- Double-tap the middle to compare with the original; long-press to reset.
- Tap Download to save the changed track to your phone.
Inside a BandLab Studio project, tap a region, tap the three-dot button, then Transpose, move the slider and tap the check mark.
Can VLC for Android change pitch?
VLC for Android is built for playback speed; we found no semitone pitch control in its player. Changing the speed there does not give you a new key at the same tempo, so use one of the methods above. The difference is explained in pitch vs tempo.
How many semitones to change on your phone
Small steps sound natural: ±1 to ±3 semitones keeps most voices and instruments clean on any phone; ±5 or more is audible as processing. One semitone multiplies every frequency by 21/12 ≈ 1.0595, so the numbers below are exact for every tool that keeps the speed.

Pitch, key or speed: pick the right control
- Pitch moves every note up or down; the tempo stays. This is what singers need.
- Key is the musical name of the result: +2 on a song in C gives D. See key change vs pitch change.
- Speed buttons in players change tempo. For both at once, use the pitch and tempo changer; for the reverse, read how to change pitch without changing speed.
Fixes when it does not work on your phone
- The song is not in the file picker: it is a stream, not a file. Save or download the file first.
- No sound on iPhone: switch off Silent mode and turn the volume up; web audio follows the ring switch.
- Processing stops: keep the tab open and the screen on until the download starts; close other heavy apps on older phones.
- Download missing: check Files > Downloads (iPhone) or the Download folder / Files app (Android).
- Sound is robotic: use a smaller shift or, for voices, formant correction in the vocal tool.
